CRANBURY: Odor control system to cost about $100K

The Township Committee introduced a supplemental bond ordinance Monday night for the installation of an odor control system at the Four Seasons pump station.
The ordinance, if passed on second reading, would appropriate $100,000 including the issuance of $95,000 bonds or notes to finance part of the cost. The committee will hold a second reading and public hearing on the ordinance at 7 p.m. on Sept. 28.
The ordinance comes as a result of an investigation into a reported odor in Wynnewood Estates.
Mayor James “Jay” Taylor reported on Aug. 10 that several Wynnewood residents alerted the township to the concern of an odor emanating from the Cranbury Brook Pump Station. He said the township would address the problem as soon as possible.
At that time, Committeeman David Cook reported there would be an on-site inspection in the next few days to determine the cause of the problem.
The township ultimately treated the smell with chlorine dioxide and hasn’t had any complaints since. However, township engineers have said that all pump stations should have an odor control system.
“We don’t want to smell anyone out of their homes,” Mayor Taylor said.
