Peddie School and Meadow Lakes will help the borough install sidewalks along Etra Road.
The Borough Council has authorized the borough engineer to design the curb and sidewalks. Peddie School and Meadow Lakes, which are both located along Etra Road, have agreed to fund the sidewalk installation, according to a borough press release.
During the Aug. 17 Borough Council meeting, Borough Engineer Carmela Roberts estimated the cost of the project at approximately $60,000. The borough’s costs would include an estimated $4,500 for surveying, $7,500 for design as well as preparation of plans and permits, and $7,000 for construction inspection.
At that time, Mayor Larry Quattrone said the bottom line is the borough would spend $19,000 to enhance curbs and sidewalks along Etra Road from Orchard Avenue to Meadow Lakes.
“This is a great example of government/community cooperation for the public good,” the mayor said in the press release. “I hope to continue this trend as Hightstown Borough continues to move forward.”
The borough has also contacted Mercer County about the standing water problem on Etra Road and the county has agreed to improve the street surface to facilitate run off, according to the press release.
