As summer sails away, just around the corner is the 7th Annual Jersey Shore Boat Sale & Expo at FirstEnergy Park, home of the Lakewood BlueClaws, from Sept. 18-20. This popular, family oriented boat show is produced by the Marine Trades Association of New Jersey (MTA/NJ) and is a highlight of the fall boating season, offering an amazing array of the industry’s top-selling brands in a fabulous setting.

The Long Branch Recreation Youth Soccer Program is in need of youth coaches. Coaches are needed for the 5- to 7-year-old division, the 8- to 10-year-old division and the 11- to 12-year-old division. Please contact the Long Branch Department of Recreation 732-571-6545 for further information.

The Monmouth County Historical Association’s Historically Speaking Lecture Series will feature the early history of the Brooklyn Dodgers and their connection with Monmouth County Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Red Bank Public Library (84 W. Front St.). Bog Iron and Baseball is the story of the Brooklyn Bridegrooms baseball team and its owner in 1898. Russ McIver, Sports Guild Master, will tell the story of the Bridegrooms’ spring training at Allaire and how the owner’s death left the team in turmoil. He will speak on personalities in the baseball world at that time and describe the team’s connection with the Jersey Shore, as well as a comparison with what is happening in the baseball world today. McIver will also speak on the vintage teams that continue to play in New Jersey today, wearing the uniforms and following the rules of the sport in earlier eras. This program is free to the public and is co-sponsored by the Monmouth County Historical Association and the Red Bank Public Library.
