EAST BRUNSWICK — For the past year, East Brunswick residents have been in the limelight.

Whether it’s Jax on “American Idol” or Heather O’Reilly, who was part of the U.S. soccer team that won the Women’s World Cup, the township has a lot to savor.

Township pride will shine through at the second annual East Brunswick Day from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 19 at the Community Arts Center.

According to a press release about the event, there will be a variety of family fun activities and around 120 exhibitors.

The East Brunswick Youth Council will have free face painting as well as a chance for guests to color a mural that will be on display in the Recreation and Parks office.

There will also be free bounce rides, laser tag, and hamster ball activities for the children.

The Rescue Squad and the Community Policing Unit will offer safety demonstrations.

The East Brunswick Police Department, Rescue Squad, Fire District 2 and Parks and Public Works will have their vehicles on hand for this year’s “Touch-A-Vehicle” display.

The East Brunswick Youth Council will also have a silent auction to support programs at East Brunswick High School and will also be on hand to provide drug prevention education.

New to this year’s event will be the East Brunswick Farmers Market, which is sponsored by the township as well as the East Brunswick Environmental Commission, and the East Brunswick Green Team. The market will have locally grown productions from around the state.

Mayor David Stahl will serve as the host to his seventh annual Dining for a Cause at this year’s event. The mayor, VFW Post #133 and the East Brunswick Youth Council will be serving meals with help from the Portuguese Fisherman restaurant in South River in order to raise money for homeless veterans in need of emergency housing and supplies.

Miss New Jersey Teen USA 2015, Jacqueline Giancola, will be in attendance.

Sponsors include the Township of East Brunswick, TAP into East Brunswick, and Northfield Bank.

In case of rain, the event will be held the following day.
