PLAINSBORO — This is the fifth year that the Medline Pink Glove Dance video competition has united dancers nationwide, including healthcare professionals, breast cancer patients and survivors to celebrate and raise awareness for those still fighting—all through the joy of dance.
The votes are in and Medline announced that University Medical Center of Princeton (UMCP) has won second place in the small-bed category for the 2015 Pink Glove Dance Video Competition.
Determined by public online voting, UMCP received 18,388 votes, and has won a $5,000 donation from Medline to the breast cancer charity of its choice, the Breast Cancer Resource Center at YWCA Princeton. Dr. Alexander Wolfson, a board certified anesthesiologist on staff at UMCP, and his wife, Dr. Natasha Wolfson, pledged a $5,000 gift to match Medline’s donation. In addition, UMCP raised $2,000 before the video competition began, for a total $12,000 raised to benefit the Breast Cancer Resource Center.
“This organization has so many amazing people, and their talent, creativity and energy was evident in every second of the video,” said Barbara Christiano, vice president, Patient Care Services, and Chief Nursing Officer at UMCP. “We dedicated our efforts to the survivors — including coworkers, family members, and others in our community — who graced us with their presence at the video shoots and played a starring role in the video. I am honored to have been one of many who danced with them.”
The video depicts the marathon that is cancer treatment, the tremendous courage of patients and survivors and the unwavering support they receive from others along the road to recovery. More than 185 dancers, including nurses, other employees, physicians, survivors, friends and family members, appeared in the video. The survivors pass a baton as they progress through various areas, including UMCP’s Breast Health Center, the Radiation and Infusion centers and the Healing Garden located outside UMCP’s Edward & Marie Matthews Center for Cancer Care. The video concludes with the survivors crossing the finish line as they exit the Healing Garden. The entire journey is set to the tune of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off.”

The participation from thousands of dancers over the years has helped us make a significant impact in providing breast cancer related charities with the essential resources they need to carry out education and prevention initiatives.”
There were nine total winners in this year’s Pink Glove Dance video competition throughout three categories — Large-Bed, Small-Bed and Non-Healthcare. Each winner has received a donation to benefit breast cancer education and prevention initiatives for the charity of their choice.
