HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP — A three-story barn suffered extensive damage in a Tuesday night fire, police reported.
The Police Department, along with the Pennington Fire Company, responded to a Pennington Titusville Road address on report of a barn fire at 11:09 p.m. Chief James DeForte of the Pennington Fire Company arrived on location and observed a large three story barn fully involved in fire.
The Hopewell Fire Department, Union Fire Company, Lawrenceville Fire Department, Lawrence Road Fire Company, Pennington Road Fire Company, West Trenton Fire Company, Prospect Heights Fire Company, and the Princeton Fire Department assisted with fighting the fire. The fire was brought under control after approximately 45 minutes.
Tanker trucks from the Pennington Fire Company, Hopewell Fire Department, Union Fire Company, Upper Makefield Fire Company, Stockton Fire Department, Sergeantsville Fire Company, Belle Mead Fire Department, Plainsboro Fire Company, Griggstown Fire Company, Three Bridges Fire Company and Cranbury Fire Company shuttled water to the scene.
The Pennington First Aid Squad, Union Rescue Squad, Signal 22 and Mercer County Communications also assisted at the scene.
Police said the barn suffered extensive damage but no animals were harmed during the fire. There were no reported injuries on scene.
Pennington Titusville Road was closed for approximately three hours between Route 579 and Hallet Drive.
While the fire appears to be accidental in nature, according to police, it remains under investigation by Police Department Detective Michael Sherman, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services Specialist John Schafer, Scott McCormick from the Mercer County Fire Marshal’s Office and Detective Michael Fiabane from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
