Children had a chance to experience life as a firefighter, at least for a few moments, at an open house held at the Mercer Engine Co. No. 3’s firehouse on Witherspoon Street Saturday to acknowledge Fire Prevention Week. Visitors had the chance to see the fire trucks as well as the gear the firefighters wear when they are called to extinguish a fire. In addition, children could visit with Sparky, a radio-controlled dog riding in a miniature fire truck.
