CRANBURY: Medical marijuana facility opens in Cranbury

By Jennifer Kohlhepp, Managing Editor
The New Jersey Department of Health has issued a final permit to Breakwater Treatment and Wellness to operate as an Alternative Treatment Center (ATC) in Cranbury.
The permit was issued after a final department inspection of its facility, located in Suite E at 2 Corporate Drive.
Breakwater officials opened their facility by appointment only beginning Thursday, Oct. 15, at 10:30 am. Patients can schedule an appointment by calling Breakwater at 732-703-7300 or book an appointment online at BreakwaterATC.com.
The state’s Medical Marijuana Program (MMP) will notify the more than 5,500 registered patients and caregivers that Breakwater has received a permit and can begin dispensing medicinal marijuana to registered patients and caregivers.
Mayor James “Jay” Taylor said the Township Committee has been actively monitoring the operation in conjunction with a number of township entities to ensure there are no issues when the facility opens.
“My primary concern is to ensure that the facility does not represent a safety concern to our community or children,” Mayor Taylor said. “I personally toured the facility along with a number of other township entities and we have had serious and open discussions with them concerning both their security protocols and our safety concerns.”
He continued, “It is important to know that Kevin Lowery, who is the Municipal Alliance chair, and I are in discussion concerning longer term implications and concerns as marijuana laws in the state evolve. While in the preliminary stages, I am very pleased and supportive of some of the ideas that the Municipal Alliance has brought forth.”
Breakwater Treatment and Wellness will be the second ATC to operate in the central region and the fifth to operate in the state. The state’s MMP currently has four ATCs dispensing: Greenleaf Compassion Center of Montclair, Compassionate Care Foundation of Egg Harbor, Garden State Dispensary of Woodbridge and Compassionate Sciences of Bellmawr in Camden County.
Patients and caregivers can visit the MMP’s website if they choose to change the ATC designated to serve them. The change can also be made by calling the Customer Service Unit of the Medicinal Marijuana Program at 609-292-0424 and does not require changing ID cards.
Patients may refer to the FAQ section of the MMP website at nj.gov/health/medicalmarijuana/pat_faqs.shtml for additional information on this topic. The 350 physicians enrolled in the program are listed by county and medical specialty. A complete list of physicians participating in the program can be found at www.state.nj.us/health/medicalmarijuana/find_phy_pat.shtml.
