Some incumbent municipal officials face the stress of a challenge for their elected office, while others in local towns have a much easier path to reelection while running uncontested during the Nov. 3 election.
In Fair Haven, Republican incumbents Eric Jaeger and Robert Marchese hope to withstand a challenge from Democrat Shervyn von Hoerl for the two open seats on the borough council.
In the Little Silver municipal election, Republican Mayor Robert Neff is running unopposed, as well as Republican incumbent councilmen David Gilmour and Glenn Talavera.
Rumson Mayor John Ekdahl, a Republican, will take on Democratic challenger Mark Steinhorn during the general election. For council, incumbent Republicans Marc Rubin and John Conklin are running unopposed.
Republican incumbents Jeff DeSalvo and Donald Eddy are running unopposed for two open seats on the Shrewsbury Borough Council.
There is also no contest in the Tinton Falls Council race. Council President Gary Baldwin, as well as incumbents NancyAnne Fama and Christopher Pak, will not face a challenger in the non-partisan election. Fama is currently serving an unexpired term after former Councilman Scott Larkin resigned. However, Fama is seeking the fullterm currently held by Councilman Scott Schertz, who chose not to seek reelection. Newcomer John Manginelli will then seek the seat currently held by Fama, which expires in 2017.
