HOWELL — Peter Bruno, a former administrator in the Freehold Regional High School District, is running unopposed for a three-year term on the district’s Board of Education in the Nov. 3 election.

Howell has two seats on the nine-member panel. The seat held by Amy Fankhauser of Howell is not on the ballot this year.

Under the board’s voting system, residents of Howell and Farmingdale will vote for Bruno.

Bruno is a teacher at Georgian Court University, Lakewood, and a lifeguard at The Atlantic Club in Manasquan. He said he wants to serve as a board member to give back to the community.

“I have a great respect for the faculty and staff of the school district,” Bruno said. “I plan on being an active and involved board member and look forward to being invited to some of the wonderful student activities to watch our students excel on and off the field.”

Bruno said that during the next three years he believes district administrators will be working to finalize plans for block scheduling and increasing social media capabilities.

“The people in Howell take great pride in Howell High School and they love the enthusiasm and leadership of the new principal,” he said. “They also tell me they would like to see the district’s learning centers and academies expanded.”

Two other board members are running unopposed to retain their seats on the panel that oversees the operation of the district’s six high schools.

Heshy Moses is running to retain his seat as Freehold Borough’s representative. Moses is the current president of the board. He said this will be his final term.

Jennifer Sutera is running to retain her seat as Manalapan’s representative. Sutera is the current vice president of the board.
