NORTH BRUNSWICK — Two police officers — James Cox and Eric Jacobsen — were promoted to the rank of sergeant during the Oct. 19 council meeting.

Cox was hired in January 2005. He attended West Virginia University and Caldwell College.

He is the recipient of numerous letters of appreciation and commendation, including and Exceptional Service Award and a Medal of Merit Award.

Jacobsen was hired in December 2006. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Rutgers University and a master’s degree in education and human resources from Seton Hall University.

He is the recipient of several letters of appreciation and commendation, including an Exceptional Service Award and the 2nd Annual Law Enforcement Recognition Award in 2009 from Mothers Against Drunk Driving for Middlesex County.

The promotions follow the retirements of Sgt. Thomas Vingara and Lt. Joe Mazza.

“In terms of public safety, the mayor and council are aware of the needs of our community. Increased populations and demands in services have necessitated an increase in manpower,” Police Director Kenneth Mc- Cormick said.
