EDISON — The township’s first Board of Education election held in November proved to be a pretty close race for the nine candidates that ran for three seats.

Deborah Anes, the sole incumbent who sought re-election, was the top vote getter, with 3,302 votes, or 17 percent of the overall tally, according to unofficial results from Middlesex County.

Ralph Errico received 2,625 votes, or 14 percent, while Shivi Prasad-Madhukar nabbed the third seat, with 2,587 votes, or 13 percent of the overall tally.

The three winners are set to serve three-year terms that will begin in January.

William Araujo also garnered 13 percent of the vote, with 2,517. Deborah Shildkraut received 2,071 votes, or 11 percent of the total. Dennis Pipala and Richard Brescher each got 10 percent of the overall votes cast, with 1,959 and 1,946, respectively. Hollie Gilroy took 8 percent, with 1,473; and Kiel Thoms received 4 percent of the vote, with 821.

The board voted earlier this year to join the majority of school districts in New Jersey that have moved their Board of Education elections to November.
