METUCHEN — The race for the third post on the borough’s Board of Education remains too close to call in the case of two candidates.

Three votes were all that separated Justin Manley from opponent JoAnn Sabatino-Falkenstein. Manley recorded 1,268 votes while Sabatino-Falkenstein received 1,265 in Middlesex County’s unofficial tally.

Provisional and mail-in ballot counts could change the result of the election for the two newcomers. County officials said the official results would be available as of late Monday afternoon.

Incumbent board member Aileen McGuire emerged as the top choice at the polls on Nov. 3, collecting 1,713 votes, or 30 percent of all votes cast, according to unofficial results. Merrill Lunt also secured a seat on the board, registering 1,430 votes.
