South Brunswick Police awarded funds for new bulletproof vests

The South Brunswick police department has received funding for bulletproof vests because of its high standard of safety.

The New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice awarded $7,067.14 in funds to South Brunswick under the State Body Armor Replacement Fund Program.

The program assists eligible law enforcement agencies to offset the costs of purchasing body vests for their officers. The program is funded through a $1 surcharge to each fine, penalty or forfeiture imposed and collected by a judge under authority of any law for any violation of the provisions of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes. In order to participate in the program, agencies were required to confirm that they have a written mandatory body armor wear policy for all uniformed officers engaged in patrol or field operations.

“Our national accreditation designation through the International Association of Chiefs of Police ensures that we meet the most stringent standards. These standards and policies allowed us to be awarded this funding,” Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said.
