RED BANK – In a politically charged election, three incumbents retained their seats on the Red Bank School District Board of Education.

Carrie Ludwikowski, who drew 873 votes, Ann Roseman, who registered 795 votes, and Frederick J. Stone, who received 630 votes, were re-elected to three-year terms on the board.

Challengers Richard R. Stout, who gained 581 votes, Michael Clancy, who drew 536 votes, and Irwin Katz, who earned 487 votes, failed to make it onto the board.

This year’s election seemed to draw political contention as Democrats charged borough Republicans of tainting the traditionally non-partisan election by backing Stout and Clancy.

Republicans rebuffed the claim, stating that the board has always been political and the current incumbents are Democratic supporters.

Some of the major issues that came up during the debate on Oct. 1 was school over crowding, keeping programs running in the face of state aid cuts, and improving the image of the district’s schools.
