Marlboro will honor veterans

MARLBORO — In observance of Veterans Day, Mayor Jonathan Hornik has directed the Police Division Honor Guard to provide the laying of a memorial wreath at the Marlboro Veterans Memorial.

Marlboro Police Capt. Peter Pezzullo, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Gulf War (Desert Storm), will lead the honor guard detail. The ceremony will begin promptly at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 11.

The veterans memorial is in front of the municipal complex, 1979 Township Drive. The public is invited to attend.

On Veterans Day, residents are asked to inspect their American flag for wear, fading or damage. If a flag is unused or should be retired, it may be brought to the American flag disposal bin in the lobby of Town Hall.

The bin was built and donated by Marlboro resident and U.S. Navy veteran William Waple in 2014. Waple has since partnered with Marlboro Boy Scout Troop 86 which now collects the flags and arranges the ceremony to properly honor the flags that are damaged or no longer in service. Boy Scout Troop 86 may be reached at info@BSATroop86.org, according to a press release from the mayor’s office.

“My sincere thanks to Bill Waple for building and donating the flag disposal bin,” Hornik said. “The bin serves as a reminder of the service and sacrifice of all of our military veterans each time I walk into Town Hall.”
