McCormac wins another term

WOODBRIDGE — Long-time Mayor John McCormac cruised to another election night victory and secured another term.

McCormac, a Democrat who has served as mayor since 2006, defeated Republican challenger John Vrtaric during the Nov. 3 election.

McCormac received 10,064 votes to defeat Vrtaric’s 2,012 votes, according to unofficial results from Middlesex County.

For council, the Democratic ticket also swept the Republicans for the five open seats on council.

Incumbents Kyle Anderson, Lizbeth DeJesus and Gregory Ficarra held onto their at-large seats on the council. Anderson received 8,620 votes; DeJesus, 8,364; and Ficarra, 8,374.

Newcomer Brian Small also won an atlarge seat on the council, with 8,462 votes.

Republican Susan Hogan received 2,681 votes. Paul Lund took in 2,548 votes, Lori Vernachio Greiz received 2,401 votes and Musleh Hakki received 2,246 votes in their bids for atlarge seats.

Democrat Cory Spillar won a two-year unexpired term on the council to represent the third ward. Spillar received 1,562 votes to defeat Republican Bruce Banko and independent Kevin Garcia, who registered 367 and 139 votes, respectively.
