Panel set to demystify contemporary art

WEST LONG BRANCH — The world of contemporary visual art is often intimidating, challenging and seemingly unapproachable. To change those perceptions, the New Jersey Museum of Contemporary Art and the Monmouth University Center for the Arts will present, “NJMoCA Art Conversations,” a series of three scholar-led panel talks on what defines contemporary art, its transformational trends and relevance and impact on society at Monmouth University’s Wilson Auditorium, 400 Cedar Ave., West Long Branch.

The first discussion, “Secrets of the Contemporary Art World,” will take place 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at Wilson Auditorium. The series is free and open to the public. A Q-and- A session will follow the talk.

United Nations journalist Alexandra King will moderate conversations with art critics, collectors, curators, technology producers and artists.

Panelists will include artist and art critic Stephen Westfall, art gallery owner Isaac Lyles and art collector Steve Shane.

The second discussion, “The Intersection of Technology and Contemporary Art,” will take place Feb. 10. The final talk, “Breaking News,” will be held April 28.
