MARLBORO – Stephen Shifrinson, Ellen Wei Xu and Robyn Wolfe have been elected to the Marlboro K-8 School District Board of Education.

Wolfe is a current member of the board.

The three residents were the top vote-getters in a field of six candidates on Nov. 3. They will begin serving their three-year terms at the school board’s reorganization meeting on Jan. 5.

According to election results posted on the Monmouth County website, Wei Xu received 3,033 votes, Shifrinson received 2,872 votes and Wolfe received 2,675 votes to claim the seats.

They out-polled Sarah Harris-Kreisler (2,249), Marianne Longobardi (1,719) and Michael Mirkin (1,561). The election results are unofficial until they are certified by the county.

Shifrinson is an educator who worked in the Marlboro school district from 1977 until his retirement in June. He retired as the principal at the Robertsville Elementary School.

“I am looking forward to affecting positive educational changes within the school district based on my 40-plus years of experience as an educator,” he said.

Wolfe was appointed to the board in July to fill an open seat. She is a teacher in the Old Bridge School District and is a trustee of the Marlboro Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization that was established to enhance the quality of education in the Marlboro school district.

“I am excited to continue to serve the Marlboro community, the children and the teachers,” she said.

Wei Xu is serving her sixth year on the board of the Huaxia Chinese School and has been the vice principal at the school for three years.

Following her victory, she said, “I am very grateful and thankful that people have trusted me and voted for me. My biggest appreciation goes to the campaign team and our mayor, Jon Hornik. Without their support, this won’t happen. I am glad to have the opportunity to contribute to the community.”
