MANVILLE: Manville teachers take to the gridiron to boost scholarship fund

Teachers and staff of the Manville School District recently showcased their on-the-field battle brawn with a Nov. 4 night football game that raised money for the Carol Caliguari Memorial Scholarship Fund for senior Manville High School students.
Mrs. Caliguari, who died in 2004, was a teacher in the Manville School District for 15 years.The players were split into two teams: the Gold Team named the Northside and the Blue Team named the Southside for the game on the high school’s Ned Panfile Field. The scrimmage included teachers and staff from the entire district.
On the Northside team were: Timothy McKinnon, Brian McCarthy, Angele Palmer, Carolyn Starr, and David Giantisco from the high school; Jennifer Pisano, Dennis Petrone, Principal Michael Magliacano and Kara Vredenburgh from the middle school; George Putvinski, Jamee Bush, Olivia Olive, Dana Mortensen, Richard Gathen and Greg Shannon from Roosevelt School; Dorothy Puzio-Raymundi, Carly Buccino, Courtney Fedor, Lisa Harrity, Samantha Casolaro and Carl Ruffer from Weston School; as well as district staffer Mark Manderski.
On the Southside team were: Lorraine Acebo, Dan McMahon, Kevin Caldwell, Bill Kurzius, Pat DeNapoli, Christopher Brophy, Michael Forte and Travis Zimmerman from the high school; Rob Snyder, Stacy Forke, Erin Shannon, Kevin McManus, Dave Markowitch and Ali Paris from the middle school; Erin Bolte, Paul Gallagher, Principal Shawn Kelly and Megan Sloan from Roosevelt School; Heather Hoagland, Danielle Mazur, Kristina DiNardo, AnneMarie Ianiero from Weston School; and district staffer Jeff Scena.
Volunteers were Angelica Arevalo, Christina Sulewski, James Horton and Rachel Gottfried from the high school; Fifi Germano, Melissa Leitner, Lauren Kurzius, Sandy Peckhardt, Andrea Krenek, Elizabeth Stoddard and Kate D’Angelo from the middle school; Melissa Markowitch and Rachael Lopa from Roosevelt School, and Principal Melissa Keiser and Sylvia Sekula from Weston School.
Referees were high school students Sandy Lawson and Jeremy Nurnburger.
The Northside stumbled and fumbled but managed to scoop up the ball and streak for a few touchdowns; however, the Southside blew open the game and won, 34-20. 
