PRINCETON: Prep hoop previews

Hun boys
Head Coach: Jon Stone, 16th year
Last year: 14-10
Key returning players: Niall Carpenter (Sr.), Austin Harriott (Sr.), Austin Hutcherson (Jr.).
Top newcomers: Luke Apuzzi (Sr.), Savoy Drummond (Sr.), Sasha French (Sr.), Jose Morales (Sr.), Ewan Lancaster (Jr.), Justin Cort (So.), Lorenzo Spinazzi (So.), Tyler Washington (So.), Shamar Florence (Fr.).
Coach’s Thoughts: I think this team has the ability and chemistry to be very good. I am very excited to coach them.
Princeton Day boys
Head Coach: Tim Williams, first year
Last year: 5-17
Key returning players: James Fragale (Sr.), Paul Franzoni (Jr.), Hassan Ladiwala (Jr.), Chase Lewis (Jr.), Mark Washington (Jr.), Nick Darenkov (So.).
Top newcomers: John McArthur (Jr.), David Coit (Fr.), Craig Wrenn (Fr.).
Coach’s Thoughts: We will look to be a more aggressive defensive team who will need to gel early. After a good summer individually, our boys will need to learn to play together as we have a good mix of newcomers and vets. Our team this year will look to run more and push the tempo, and our increased depthshould allow us to do so. The boys have been very positive with our new approach and some of the new concepts that we have introduced and I expect good things from them.
Hun girls
Head Coach: Bill Holup, 17th year
Last year: 6-16
Key returning players: Amber Bourke (Sr), Julie Fassl (Sr.), Maura Kelly (Sr.).
Top newcomers: Sydney Peoples (Sr.), Amerila Cura (Jr.), Christina Mozeika (Jr.), Sanna Skeppner (So.), Sydney Medina (Fr.), Alexis Moise (Fr.), Nia Sapia (Fr.), Leah Sutphen (Fr.).
Coach’s Thoughts: Overall, we have a young and inexperienced team. We lost a lot to graduation so this year we are rebuilding. We’re working on developing our skills and basketball IQ. I think by mid-January we will be a much more developed team that can surprise people.
Princeton Day girls
Head Coach: Kamau Bailey, third year
Last year: 5-13
Key returning players: Isabel Meyercord (Sr.), Shayla Stevenson (Jr.), Helen Healey (Sr.), Ryan Robinson (So.), Madi Coyne (So.), Bridget Kane (So.), Alexis Davis (Jr.), Jacqueline Hart (Sr.), Elaynah Jamal (Jr.), Kate Bennett (So.), Summer Patterson (So.).
Top newcomers: Brooke Smukler (Fr.), Helen Mehreteab (Fr.), Laurel Peters (Fr.).
Coach’s Thoughts: I am extremely pleased the way this team is starting to come together. We have had some really good practices, some competitive scrimmages, and as a result, I think the chemistry between the girls is better than it has ever been. I think we are going to make some noise and surprise a few teams this season. The girls are ready to play. Brooke Smukler is really aggressive offensively, can shoot the ball well and is a very confident player who will make an immediate impact for us. Alexis Davis is returning from an ACL injury last year. She is an amazing athlete and great rebounder.
Stuart Country Day
Head Coach: Justin Leith, second year
Last year: 11-16
Key returning players: Harley Guzman (Sr.), Rose Tetnowski (Sr.), Kate Walsh (Sr.), Virginia Plehn (So.), Madeleine Michaels (So.).
Top newcomers: Julia Kahn (Jr.), Tanya Grover (So.), Jalynn Spaulding (So.), Alison Walsh (So.), Bey-Shana Clark (Fr.), Priscilla Francois (Fr.).
Coach’s Thoughts: We have a couple of new transfers with Bey-Shana Clark from Ewing and Jalynn Spaulding from Lawrence. They are both changing our dynamic significantly. They are young but we’ll see a difference by adding those girls. We have solid returning players with Harley Guzman, Kate Walsh and Rose Tetnowski. And Madeleine Michaels came a long way last year from JV to starting.
