Church announces Christmas services

The First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen invites all to Christmas services on Dec. 20 and 24. All services will be held in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen, 270 Woodbridge Ave., Metuchen.

A Service of Lessons and Carols will be held at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 20. This Advent service combines scripture readings with Christmas anthems and hymns, and dates back to 1880, being adapted in 1918 for use in the chapel of King’s College, Cambridge.

Christmas Eve Services will begin at 6 p.m. Dec. 24 with First Presbyterian Church’s “A Christmas Story, Simply Told,” a re-telling of the history, mystery, miracles and special effects of the birth of Jesus as told in the Bible. With a cast made up entirely of church youth, adults and pastors, the pageant is a First Presbyterian tradition and perfect for both young and young at heart. Christmas Eve Services will continue with an 11 p.m. Service which features traditional candle lighting, the Senior Choir and Communion.
