Town’s attorney receives honor

 Roger J. McLaughlin Roger J. McLaughlin MANALAPAN — Roger J. McLaughlin, who has served as Manalapan’s township attorney for the past six years, has been named as the 2015 recipient of the Michael A. Pane Award by the New Jersey Institute of Local Government Attorneys and the New Jersey League of Municipalities.

The award honors “a municipal professional who exemplifies the highest standards of ethics and whose work has significantly enhanced the integrity of local government,” according to a press release.

McLaughlin received the award at the annual meeting of the institute in Atlantic City on Nov. 19.

Mr. McLaughlin, an attorney with the Wall Township law firm of McLaughlin Stauffer & Shaklee, P.C., also serves as special counsel to Freehold Township and the Freehold Township Planning Board.

He served for many years as the township attorney in Wall Township and has served numerous public entities as general counsel, bond counsel and special counsel during the past three decades.

“I am very honored to have been chosen as the recipient of the Michael Pane Award. Michael was one of the most recognized and knowledgeable experts in New Jersey local government law and always conducted himself in a way that met the highest ethical standards of our profession,” McLaughlin said.

“The public has a right to expect that their local officials will conduct themselves in accordance with the highest ethical standards and it is a privilege to assist and advise those officials in serving the public,” he said.

McLaughlin is the senior partner of his law firm, which is engaged in a general civil practice representing individuals and businesses. In addition to serving as an attorney for public entities, McLaughlin appears on behalf of applicants before local planning and zoning boards and represents many individual clients and businesses in Monmouth County, according to the press release.
