HOPEWELL TWP.: Recreation offers indoor field hockey and agility programs  

The Hopewell Township Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor two winter indoor recreation opportunities.
The Winter Sticks indoor field hockey program will be held for students in grades 2-7 from Hopewell Valley and neighboring municipalities.
Hopewell Valley Central High School alumnus and current TCNJ player Alicia Wagner will lead the program in the Central High School gymnasium for five weeks from Sunday, Jan. 10, through Feb. 7.
The winter indoor field hockey program is open to girls and boys in grades 2-7 and will meet between 2 and 3:30 p.m. The program provides an ideal opportunity to learn the fundamentals and basic skills of field hockey and features organized games and officiating while maintaining a recreational philosophy.
Participants will need to provide their own shin guards, mouthpiece, proper footwear (which can be sneakers) and stick. The cost for the program is $86 per person ($75 for Hopewell Township residents).

Seven weeks of speed and agility training is offered to boys and girls in grades 7-12.
Central High School varsity football coach Dave Caldwell and his staff will lead the program in the Central High School gymnasium from Sunday, Jan. 10, through Wednesday, March 2. The 7-week program will meet on Sunday afternoons from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. for a total of 14 sessions.
The program is designed for middle school through high school athletes. Sessions will consist of drills to improve running mechanics, foot speed, change of direction and lateral speed to help teens tune up for the upcoming lacrosse, baseball and softball seasons. The program costs $172 per person ($150 for Hopewell Township residents). For information, call the recreation department at 737-3753.
