COLTS NECK – The Colts Neck Library, 1 Winthrop Drive, will host a production of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.”

Performers from Nine Theatricals of Freehold will dress in 1930s and 1940s period clothing and perform a 1939 radio version of “A Christmas Carol” at 2 p.m. Dec. 19.

The original 1939 radio performance of “A Christmas Carol” was sponsored by Campbell’s soup and featured Lionel Barrymore as Ebenezer Scrooge and Orson Welles as the narrator, according to information provided by the library.

The Dec. 19 performance in Colts Neck is one stop on a tour of libraries in Monmouth and Ocean counties by Nine Theatricals.

In Monmouth County, there was a performance in Allentown on Dec. 4 and a performances in Ocean Township on Dec. 12. “A Christmas Carol” will be performed in Shrewsbury at 7:15 p.m. Dec. 21.

In Ocean County, there was a performance in Point Pleasant Borough on Dec. 3. “A Christmas Carol” will be performed in Jackson at 7 p.m. Dec. 22.

“A Christmas Carol” is being directed by Linda Turash. She said the show will feature music from the 2009 film “A Christmas Carol” starring Jim Carrey.

“I like to do radio show (scripts) around Christmas because people are busy and they do not have enough time to memorize lines,” Turash said. “So we can perform off a script while still being able to work on our acting skills, as well as bringing people joy during the holiday season.”

“A Christmas Carol” features Richard Saylor as Scrooge, Vincent Finley as the narrator and other male roles, Steven Marrus, Angie Wall and Fran Raleigh, with Janice Saylor working the production.

In the past, Nine Theatricals has presented the holiday shows “Miracle on 34th Street” and “It’s a Wonderful Life.” For more information, call the Colts Neck Library at 732-431-5656 or visit the website www.ninetheatricals.com.
