Freehold synagogue to host film series

FREEHOLD — The Freehold Jewish Center’s Adult Education Winter Film series will begin on Dec. 20 with the film “Arranged.”

“Arranged” is the story of a friendship between an Orthodox Jewish woman and a Muslim woman who meet as first-year teachers at a public school in Brooklyn. The film centers on how much the women have in common, according to a press release.

The film to be shown on Jan. 24 is “Loving Leah.” It is the story of an unobservant Jewish bachelor who feels compelled to marry his observant rabbi brother’s widow, Leah, to honor his deceased brother via the ancient Jewish law of yibbum (levirate) marriage.

The Feb. 21 film is “The Green Prince.” It is a documentary that recounts the true story of the son of a Hamas leader who emerged as one of Israel’s prized informants and the Shin Bet agent who risked his career to protect him, according to the press release.

Films are shown at 10:15 a.m. There is a small cost for coffee and bagels. All are welcome to attend. Individuals are asked to call 732-462-0254 so synagogue officials know how many people to expect for each event.
