Museum to host winter recital

On Dec. 20 at 3 p.m., celebrated mezzosoprano Donna Breitzer and Cantor Joshua Breitzer, accompanied by Michael Brofman, will present a winter recital at the Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County, 310 Mount’s Corner Drive, Freehold Township.

The New York-based artists will perform music by Jewish composers as diverse as Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, Darius Milhaud, Lazar Weiner along with songs from The Great American Songbook, according to a press release.

Donna Breitzer is a singer, voice teacher and arts administrator in New York City and has performed with several New York City opera companies. Breitzer has made New York City solo concert appearances with the Jewish People’s Philharmonic Chorus, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Shir Chadash: The Brooklyn Jewish Community Chorus and others. Breitzer is especially happy to be performing in Monmouth County, according to the press release.

Joshua Breitzer is the cantor and music director of Congregation Beth Elohim, Brooklyn, and is the founding conductor of HaZamir Brooklyn, a chapter of HaZamir: The International Jewish High School Choir. Breitzer has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Merkin Concert Hall.

Brofman is the founder and artistic director of the Brooklyn Art Song Society, an organization dedicated to the repertoire of poetry set to music.
