Pedestrian struck, killed on Route 9

MANALAPAN — Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a Manalapan resident.

Police said that at 11:30 p.m. Dec. 8, officers responded to Route 9 south near the Gordons Corner Road bus stop for a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle.

According to Manalapan Deputy Police Chief Michael Fountain, Corrine Becker, 82, of Manalapan, was struck while she was crossing Route 9 south.

Fountain said the driver of the vehicle that struck Becker did not stop after hitting her.

Fountain said an investigation led police to identify Dominick DiGiorgio, 42, of Jackson, as the driver of the vehicle that struck Becker.

No additional information about the incident was available as of Dec. 14.

According to an obituary published online by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, Becker died on Dec. 9. She is survived by her sons, Robert and Marc Becker; four grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.

Graveside services for Becker were held on Dec. 13 at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge.
