PHOTO COURTESY OF ASSEMBLYWOMAN NANCY PINKIN SOUTH RIVER — Assemblywoman Nancy J. Pinkin (D-Middlesex) has received the Good Scout Award from the Monmouth Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

“I am deeply honored by this recognition. The Boy Scouts have always had a special place in my heart, as my son is an Eagle Scout, and he and my husband spent many years engaged in scouting,” Pinkin said.

The council, which encompasses parts of Middlesex County, served as the host to its second annual Distinguished Citizen Awards Reception at the Ria Mar Restaurant in South River on Dec. 9.

As a former volunteer with both the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts, Pinkin drew upon her experiences mentoring young men and women to become responsible and upstanding citizens.

“Scouting is about preparation and developing a strong character devoted to citizenship and being trustworthy. I am very humbled by this honor and I will cherish this award,” she said.

Pinkin was first elected to the Assembly in 2013 after serving on the East Brunswick Town Council since 2005. She was reelected in November. Her district includes East Brunswick, Edison, Helmetta, Highland Park, Metuchen, South Plainfield and South River.

Other honorees included Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo (D-Mercer) and Jerry Case of Princeton Orthopedics.

Serving as reception chairmen included South Brunswick Deputy Mayor Christopher Kilmurray and Middlesex and Somerset Counties Central Labor AFL-CIO Council President Tom Tighe.
