Residents seeking info on housing

MANALAPAN — The possibility of affordable housing being constructed on a tract of land near their neighborhood has residents of Rockingham Court and Blair Lane asking municipal officials for more information.

Both streets are off Taylors Mills Road between Conmack Lane and Pease Road.

During the Dec. 9 meeting of the Township Committee, Sheryl Cintron, of Rockingham Court, said residents are concerned about reports that a developer has plans to build 69 units of affordable housing on property off Taylors Mills Road.

Cintron asked for additional information regarding the reports.

Mayor Jack McNaboe said Manalapan representatives were expected to file an affordable housing plan in state Superior Court on Dec. 14. He said the court has directed Manalapan to build 649 units of affordable housing by 2025.

That number is not set in stone and could change, according to municipal officials.

McNaboe said the tract of land off Taylors Mills Road that Cintron was inquiring about “is going to be in the mix” as an affordable housing site. Speaking about affordable housing in general, the mayor said, “I would like to build (affordable housing) for people who truly need it.”
