HILLSBOROUGH: Derek Stiles steadies defense for Washington College soccer team 

Junior back Derek Stiles of Hillsborough concluded his third season with the men’s soccer team at Washington College in Chestertown, Md. He started 12 matches for the Shoremen in 2015.
Stiles helped the Shoremen post four shutouts this season. In 36 career matches, he has earned 27 starting assignments.
He was named to the Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship team.
Stiles was named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for the second time. To be named, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior and carry at least a 3.40 cumulative grade-point average.
A defender, he’s taken one shot in 12 games in 2015, and three shots in 14 games in 2014. He scored one goal and had one assist and three shots in 10 games in 2013.
At Hillsborough High, Stiles was a first-team all-area, all-county, all-section, and all-conference selection and a and third-team all-state player.
At HHS, he was a two-time team MVP and two-year captain.
Stiles, a 6-2, 190-pound junior, majors in economics and political science. 
