HOPEWELL: Efforts of businesses spread awareness of breast cancer

To the editor:
Recently, the Pennington Business & Professional Association, the Hopewell Economic Development Commission and the Hopewell Business Association partnered with Capital Health’s Center for Comprehensive Breast Care on a campaign that helped raise awareness about a disease that affects 1 in 8 women and educated women on the importance of early detection.
The unique, two-week shopping and dining campaign, called Hope is in the Bag, united local communities and inspired many to help support Capital Health patients. Business owners hosted special events and promotions, distributed educational materials, and raised more than $9,000 which will enhance services that support women undergoing breast cancer care at Capital Health’s Center for Comprehensive Breast Care.
On behalf of the patients, families and the staff at Capital Heath’s Comprehensive Center for Breast Care, we would like to thank the 2015 participating businesses, their loyal patrons, event attendees and community members for the outpouring support throughout the Hope is in the Bag campaign. We are truly grateful for their kind generosity and are proud to have been part of something that meant so much to our local community and to those whose lives breast cancer has touched.
The letter is signed by Lisa Allen, MD, director of the Center for Comprehensive Breast Care, and Gary A. Tuma, MD,of Plastic Surgery Associates of NJ.
