MILLSTONE — The Men’s Guild of Saint Joseph Church will host its 13th Father and Son Breakfast on Jan. 31. Residents of all towns are welcome to attend.
The breakfast will be held at noon at St. Joseph Church, 91 Stillhouse Road, Millstone Township. Admission is $5 and tickets may be purchased at the door or by calling Dave Cerulo at 732-750-6952.
Dr. Ken Tomkovich, the co-chair of the breakfast, said, “It has grown into a really nice event. It is a nice opportunity to get together for a few hours.”
Tomkovich, who is a radiologist at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, said he has been attending the church for 25 years, but he did not become involved with the Men’s Guild until after the birth of his first son.
He has two sons, Kenny, 15, and Andrew, 8. This will be his sixth year as the co-chair of the Father and Son Breakfast.
Dave Cerulo, the president of the Men’s Guild, helps to run the breakfast. Cerulo has been involved with the event since it debuted in 2004.
Tomkovich said, “It’s about fathers and sons getting together and building relationships. The focus is on having a good time, putting all the other stuff aside and being with your kids.”
The breakfast features a guest speaker who typically discusses the importance of father-son relationships.
“Their messages resonate with the kids,” Tomkovich said.
Several guest speakers have been athletes from Rutgers University. Tomkovich is a 1989 graduate of Rutgers.
The speaker at the 2014 breakfast was Rutgers football defensive lineman Dave Milewski, who came back from multiple knee surgeries to become a team captain.
Tomkovich said Milewski told those in attendance how he persevered through his health issues with the assistance of his father.
This year’s guest speaker will be Julian Pinnix-Odrick, another defensive lineman for the Scarlet Knights. Pinnix-Odrick is a redshirt junior and hails from Montclair.
The breakfast will feature a giveaway of gifts, including Hess toy trucks provided by Cerulo, who works for Hess.
