A Trenton man who was falsely asking for donations for the Crisis Ministry of Mercer County was arrested Thursday and charged with soliciting without a permit, according to the Princeton Police Department.
Jerry Walker, 54, of Trenton, was arrested at 4:57 p.m. on outstanding warrants totaling $268 from Hopewell Township Municipal Court, after police received a call that a man was allegedly soliciting on behalf of the Crisis Ministry.
Mr. Walker was representing himself as a Crisis Ministry volunteer. Police were notified after residents recalled an earlier police alert through Nixle and newspaper reports about people falsely soliciting for Crisis Ministry donations. The Crisis Ministry does not solicit door-to-door.
Police officers found Mr. Walker on North Harrison Street and arrested him on the outstanding warrants from Hopewell Township Municipal Court. It was also determined that he had not obtained a permit to solicit, police said.
After his arrest by the Princeton Police Department, Mr. Walker was turned over to the Hopewell Township Police Department.
