The Edison Police Department will hold a Civilian Police Academy starting Feb. 23 from 7:30-9:30 p.m., and will run for eight Tuesday evenings through April.
The academy, to be held at the Edison Municipal Complex, 100 Municipal Blvd., is open to all Edison residents, 18 or older, who register before Jan. 29. The class size will be limited to the first 40 residents to register and there is no cost for the program.
Some of the topics to be discussed will be: the Operation’s Bureau functions, Special Operation’s Group, Emergency Response Team, Emergency Management, Domestic Violence, Crime Prevention & Personal Safety, Auxiliary Police, Firearms Safety, Criminal Identification and Detective and Juvenile Aid Bureau functions. Graduates of the Civilian Police Academy will receive a diploma and will be eligible to participate in a ride-along with an on-duty Edison Police Officer.
