A group working on evaluating the potential for establishing a downtown management organization for Metuchen, will hold a public meeting from 7-9 p.m. on Jan. 26 at the Metuchen Senior Center
In late 2014, the Borough of Metuchen was accepted into the state’s Main Street New Jersey (MSNJ) program, and in March, 2015, the head of that state technical assistance program addressed a meeting at the Metuchen Senior Center.
Based on the positive reaction and interest in improving the downtown district, a volunteer team of local stakeholders was formed. For the past six months, they have been assessing and evaluating successful New Jersey downtowns served by proactive management organizations.
In addition to learning about the team’s research and hearing examples from other municipalities, the stakeholders will also share a preliminary recommendation for the creation of the proposed Metuchen Downtown Alliance (MDA). The MDA would be a managed business improvement district, using the MSNJ approach, designed to foster commercial revitalization and historic preservation of downtown Metuchen.
All interested parties – residents, business owners, and landlords – are encouraged to attend this informative meeting.
