EAST BRUNSWICK – Police are advising residents to secure their cars due to a recent rash of vehicle break-ins.
Officers responded to the area of Merrill Avenue on Jan. 14 on a report of several unlocked vehicles that had been broken into. A suspect reportedly removed numerous items, including change and backpacks, from vehicles parked on Merrill Avenue, Lois Avenue, Mansfield Avenue, Quincy Road, Valley View Road and Highview Road, police said.
The suspect was observed on a resident’s surveillance camera and was described as possibly a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, thin build and was wearing jeans, dark sneakers, a light colored or gray hooded sweatshirt, a light colored backpack and work gloves with a dark stripe on them, according to police.

East Brunswick Police Department’s Community Policing Unit reminds residents to always lock car doors after entering or leaving it; keep all windows and sun/moon roofs closed; park in a busy or well-lit area; keep the interior of the car clean; remove valuables overnight; store navigation units and mounting brackets; and do not leave keys inside the car.
