Local resident Katherine Dresdner will give a presentation about the newly preserved land near the village of Mount Rose as part of the Hopewell Public Library’s Wednesday Night Out series at 7 p.m. Feb. 3, at the Hopewell Train Station.
Since 1998 residents in the Hopewell Valley have opposed development on the 360-acre Western Electric corporate campus located on both sides of Carter Road, just south of the historic crossroads intersection of Mount Rose Village at Pennington-Rocky Hill and Cherry Valley roads.
This story is about how people in the community, five municipalities, the county and five non-profit groups worked together to save water resources and the natural beauty of the Valley from commercial development.
Katherine V. Dresdner, general counsel for Hopewell Valley Citizens Group, Inc. will tell the story of how the development plan was stopped and her work with Michele S. Byers, executive director of New Jersey Conservation Foundation, to build the partnerships that saved 320 acres of land in 2015 creating a new public park called the Mt. Rose Preserve.
