EAST WINDSOR: Daughter-in-law charged with murder in the beating death of local woman

Tasneem Diwan, 45, of East Windsor, has been arrested and charged with the murder of her mother-in-law, 73-year-old Safia Diwan, last week in East Windsor.
In addition to the murder charge, Ms. Diwan has also been charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and with unlawful possession of a weapon.
Ms. Diwan was observed late Friday night, Jan. 29, in the bus terminal area of the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City, where she was detained by security officers and Atlantic City police. Members of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the East Windsor Township Police Department transported Ms. Diwan back to the area and continued the investigation.
According to the complaints, on Tuesday, Jan. 26, Ms. Diwan struck her mother-in-law in the head numerous times with an unknown object in the Mozart Court home where they lived together.
East Windsor police responded to the residence just after 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving a 911 call. Upon arrival, police found the victim lying in a front office. An autopsy indicated the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
The charges against Ms. Diwan are a result of an investigation by county prosecutor’s office Detective Eric Hastings, the MCHTF and the East Windsor Township Police Department.
Bail was set for Ms. Diwan at $1 million cash or bond by Mercer County Superior Court Judge Robert Billmeier. There is no scheduled court date at this
time.
