Ryan Rafferty, Dan Kaba and Jonathan Brust turned in solid second-place finishes to propel Jackson Memorial High School’s boys indoor track and field team to a third-place showing in the team standings at the Shore Conference championships at the John Bennett Indoor Athletic Complex in Toms River Jan. 27.
Rafferty, one of the leading runners at 1,600 meters heading into the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV and Group IV meets, was timed in 4:21.21. Kaba turned in a time of 7.81 in the 55-meter hurdles and also ran on the 4×400 relay team that was third in 3:34.96. Brendan Sweet and Tyler Towns ran the first two legs and Daniel Kallett was the anchor. Brust cleared 12-6 in the pole vault, tying the high for the day.
For Jackson Memorial’s girls, Kaitlin O’Brien was sixth in the 3,200 meters in 11:43.09.
Jackson Liberty High School’s girls again got a strong showing in the shot put from Danielle Notarfancesco, who had the second-best throw at 41-7¾. Teammate Sophia Bartolini was fourth with a throw of 38-1¾.
