The John P. Stevens Indoor Guard will hld its annual Indoor Guard Show on Feb. 13 at the high school, located at 855 Grove Ave., Edison. The show will begin at 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students; refreshments will be available for purchase. 21 schools from New Jersey and Long Island, New York, are scheduled to compete.
The John P. Stevens Indoor Guard, under the direction of Caitlin Feeney, is comprised of 16 members and is led by captain Shreya Sethi. This year’s show is entitled “Awaken Paris.” Last year, the John P. Stevens Indoor Guard finished in second place of 16 teams in the Scholastic Novice division, earning silver medals, at the MAIN (Mid-Atlantic Indoor Network) Championship. The 2015 season show was titled “Falling in Love at the Coffee Shop.” In addition to their second-place championship performance, they finished in first place in their division at the Bridgewater competition, and placed fourth or better at their other competitions. Because of the guard’s superior performance, they were moved up one division to Scholastic Regional A.
Caitlin Feeney added: “The Winter Guard also finished two years ago in second place with a silver. The show was called “After the Storm.” 2014 also marked the first season that the winter guard had placed in a medal position with MAIN so these past two seasons have been record-breakers for the guard program.”
Winter Guard involves a dance routine performed to recorded music portraying emotion through the use of flags, sabers, and rifles.
