Local dentist, Dr. Cavan Brunsden and the KidZdent team, will provide a day of free preventive and emergency dental care for uninsured, underprivileged children ages 12 and under, as part of National Children’s Dental Health Month (CDHM). This one-day program, called Give Kids a Smile! (GKAS), will take place on Feb. 5. This is part of the American Dental Association’s (ADA) mission to bring attention to the No. 1 childhood disease, tooth decay.
Children who come to Dr. Brunsden’s office on Feb. 5 will receive a comprehensive dental exam, oral healthcare instructions, fluoride treatments, and free dental hygiene materials including toothbrushes, floss and toothpaste. In addition, emergency dental care and treatment will be provided. Kids will also be treated to face painting, balloons and tattoos.
Dentists and other team members volunteer their time, and services, to provide screenings, treatments and education to children throughout the United States. Each year, approximately 350,000 children benefit from more than 1,500 events, all because of the efforts of 40,000 or more annual volunteers.
Dr. Brunsden has been practicing dentistry more than 35 years in New Jersey. He is the recipient of the Smile Champion Award by the American Dental Association for this work with Give Kids a Smile program. Individuals who wish to be seen at KidZdent on Feb. 5 can call 732-679-2323 or visit www.njda.org and click on Give Kids a Smile under Public Resources for more participating locations.
