The Long Branch Free Public Library will host free tax preparation by certified tax volunteers until April 15. The service is available for both Long Branch residents and nonresidents.
The last day for electronic filing at the library is April 14. Assistance is available from 12-6 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday.
The last day for filing paper returns is April 15. Assistance is available from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Tuesday, 12-6 p.m. on Wednesday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursday, 2-4 p.m. on Friday and 12-3 p.m. on Saturday.
The service is first-come, first-served, so arrive early and sign in at the Adult Services desk on the lower level. When the maximum number of daily appointments has been reached, registrations will be made for another day.
Come prepared and bring a copy of last year’s return, Social Security numbers for all taxpayers and dependents, final brokerage statements, all W-2 and 1099 forms showing income, the total amount of property tax paid last year and the amount of mortgage interest paid, unemployment vouchers and any tax booklets mailed to your home.
If applicable, bring the total of last year’s medical expenses and a statement of insurance coverage and the total spent on college tuition, childcare (provide the name and tax identification number of the provider), alimony and charitable donations.
