Young musicians will showcase their talents at concert

EAST BRUNSWICK – Two young musicians from East Brunswick will take part in a concert showcase next week.

Christine Chang, a seventh grader at Hammarskjold Middle School, and Jasmine Cheng, a ninth grader at East Brunswick Middle School, will perform at Crescent Concerts’ 17th Annual Showcase for Exceptional Young Artists on Feb. 21.

Chang has been studying piano since the age of four. She has received numerous awards, including second prize in the Steinway Society Piano Competition and the grand prize from the National League of Performing Arts. She has performed more than once at Carnegie Hall.

She will be performing pieces by Mendelssohn and Clementi.

Cheng has also studied piano since she was four. She has been awarded first prize at the NJMTA Young Musician Piano Competition and has won the MTNA Junior Performance Competition. She has performed at Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center.

She will be presenting works by Beethoven and Chopin.

The concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Feb. 21 at Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church Sanctuary, 716 Watchung Ave., Plainfield. Ticket prices range from $5 to $20.
