The Metuchen Edison Area of the NAACP will celebrate Black History Month at 7 p.m. on Feb. 11 at New Hope Baptist Church, 45 Hampton Street, Metuchen. The speaker will be Don Oliveria, who served as a Congregational Aide to the Honorable Shirley Chisholm and marched with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Mr. Oliveria will discuss his participation in the “Bloody Sunday” march on March 7, 1965, where an estimated 525 to 600 civil rights marchers were attacked on the Edmund Pettis Bridge in Selma, Alabama.
