MILLSTONE — A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 10 as Millstone Township officials introduce the community’s newest affordable housing development.
The Allen House apartment building has been constructed at 477 Stagecoach Road in the Clarksburg section of the municipality.
News of the ribbon cutting ceremony was announced by the Affordable Housing Alliance, Neptune, which developed the project for individuals age 62 and over in conjunction with the township.
Construction on the Allen House began in the fall of 2014. The project was more than six years in the making at the time ground for the building was broken.
The Affordable Housing Alliance is a private nonprofit organization that sponsored the nearly $2 million project, according to a previous Examiner article.
The Allen House contains 10 apartments. Individuals age 62 and over who have a low or moderate income will become residents, according to an article published in the fall of 2014.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development income limit for Monmouth County in 2014 was $30,000 for one person and $34,950 for a family of two, which is the maximum number of people who can live in an apartment.
The Allen House apartments offer one bedroom, with laundry facilities and a small community room in the building. The complex will be serviced by well water and a septic system. The units have been designed to be energy efficient.
The 4-acre lakeside property that has been developed is near the Millstone Community/Senior Center and the Clarksburg Inn. Millstone purchased the property in 2007 and began to work with the Affordable Housing Alliance in 2008.
The construction of the apartments will help Millstone meet a state mandate to provide opportunities for housing for individuals with low and moderate incomes, according to the 2014 Examiner article.
