SOUTH BRUNSWICK – South Brunswick Police have released the identity of the motorcycle driver who was seriously injured in a crash on Feb. 21.
The driver, Justin Ratiner, 20, of South River, remains in serious condition at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Ratiner was riding a 2010 Yamaha R-1 high end sports motorcycle west on Deans Rhode Hall Road just past Fresh Ponds Road at 8:45 a.m. when he crashed, police said.
The South Brunswick Traffic Safety Bureau determined Ratiner was exceeding the speed limit when he came upon a bend in the road. Ratiner failed to take corrective action and struck a guardrail off the right side of the road. Upon impact with the guardrail, Ratiner was thrown 90 feet into the woods. The motorcycle continued to slide on the roadway for nearly 300 additional feet before coming to rest, according to a statement prepared by the South Brunswick Police Department.
South Brunswick EMS and paramedics rushed Ratiner to the hospital. Ratiner underwent surgery and suffered multiple injuries, police said.
The crash investigation resulted in Deans Rhode Hall Road being closed between Route 130 and Fresh Ponds Road for four hours. The crash is being investigated by South Brunswick Traffic Officer Frank Mongalieri.
