To the editor:
The recent coverage of the presidential race, from most aspects of the media, has been downright unacceptable. The mass media seems to focus completely on the wrong topics involving the candidates and their actions rather than their policies. The constant trivial storylines that flood modern media cast a very negative shadow against the whole democratic process.
The stories and coverage that distort the presidential race focus on all the wrong things. There are too many articles and stories out there that focus on the latest strife that the candidates have between each other. Additionally, there should not be a constant flow of breaking news articles every couple of hours that predict a new primary or caucus winner. There is an enormous amount of coverage for the first wave of primaries, even though there are so few delegates at stake due to the enormous total necessary to secure a spot on the final ballot.
There is so much time and energy wasted on storylines that do not matter. We need fewer stories about the constant flutter of the polls and more about opinions of the candidates on key issues that face this country. That is what this whole process is about; picking the right person to take on the biggest issues, and that is what needs to be highlighted the most.
