The Woodbridge Environmental Commission will be holding a workshop on “How to Make a Rain Barrel.” The workshop will be held on March 15 at the Fords Branch Library, 211 Ford Ave. in Fords, at 6:30 p.m.; admission is free.
Step-by-step instructions will be given as the demonstrator proceeds to construct the rain barrel and explains what items are needed to complete the project. Constructing the rain barrel is an easy project. The completed rain barrel at the end of the demonstration will be given away to a lucky person in attendance.
Information on the importance of having a rain barrel will also be available. When we catch and keep the rainwater that falls on our yards, we reduce flooding and stress on our sewer system infrastructure, keep pollutants out of our rivers and streams and end up with gallons of water that is perfect for watering lawns, gardens, flower pots, washing cars and windows or the family dog. It also reduces your water bill.
The Environmental Commission has also established a Seed Library, which is located at the Fords Branch Library. After the demonstration you will be able to select packages of seeds from a large variety of vegetable, flowers and herbs to plant in your garden free of cost. The Seed Library operates on the honor system; no library card is required.
