LITTLE SILVER — The Red Bank Regional High School (RBR) community recently welcomed students from The Jersey Shore Chinese School to their school to usher in the Year of the Monkey.
The festive celebration featured a feast of color, pageantry and skill. Students displayed their talents with the Chinese yo-yo. Beautifully festooned dancers performed an elegant folk dance, while others manipulated the serpentine dragon in a traditional dance.
RBR Principal Risa Clay courageously fed the red envelope to the Lion, which signifies warding away evil spirits and bringing good luck.
Chinyun Wu, who teaches at RBR and the Jersey Shore Chinese School, arranged for her students’ performance at RBR.
“The year 2016 is the Year of the Monkey which extends from Feb. 8, 2016 through Jan. 27, 2017. The monkey represents the ninth in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. The monkey zodiac sign is smart, clever and intelligent, especially for career and wealth,” Wu said.
“We wish everyone a wealthy and healthy Year of the Monkey.”
